Call For Volunteers: Braves FanFest this weekend!

The Brian Jordan Foundation is managing the Coat Check at Braves Fan Fest in partnership with The Braves Foundation. Volunteers are needed for shifts on Saturday and Sunday. Volunteers will receive an event credential to gain access to FanFest on the day of service.

What: Braves fans will have the opportunity to meet current and former Atlanta Braves, collect autographs, play interactive games, participate in skills clinics, shop for Braves memorabilia, and much more. More than 20 current players, including Tom Glavine, Chipper Jones, Mark Teixeira and John Smoltz, have already confirmed that they'll attend this event.

Where & When: This year's two-day FanFest will be held at the Georgia World Congress Center on Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. ET and on Sunday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Why: The Brian Jordan Foundation will receive a portion of the proceeds from the Coat Check service.The Brian Jordan Foundation benefits economically challenged youth by awarding scholarships to students in need of finances to assist in furthering their education.

New Grant Programs for College Students

Important information about two new grant programs from the U.S. Department of Education.
Higher Education Reconciliation Act of 2005
Two new student aid grant programs were created by a federal law that went into effect on July 1, 2006. They are the Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) and the National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant (National SMART Grant). See below for more information about each grant program.

Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)
The Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) is for first-year undergraduate students (eligible to receive up to $750) and second-year undergraduate students (eligible to receive up to $1,300). The ACG eligibility criteria are listed below:

To be eligible for an ACG, you must:

Be a U.S. citizen;
Be Federal Pell Grant eligible;
Be enrolled full-time in a degree program;
Be enrolled in the first or second academic year of your program of study at a two-year or four-year degree-granting institution;
Have completed a rigorous secondary school program of study (after January 1, 2006, if a first-year student, and after January 1, 2005, if a second year student);
Not have been previously enrolled in an undergraduate program (if you are a first-year student); and
Have at least a cumulative 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale for the first academic year (if you are a second-year student).
FAFSA on the Web will predetermine if you are eligible to answer the ACG questions.

If you have submitted a paper FAFSA and have received your Student Aid Report (SAR) indicating that you may be eligible to answer the ACG questions, call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4FED-AID.

You may also contact the financial aid office at your school for assistance regarding ACG.

National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant (National SMART Grant)
The National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant (National SMART Grant) is for third- and fourth-year undergraduate students who are eligible to receive up to $ 4,000 each year.

To be eligible for a National SMART Grant you must:

Be a U.S. citizen;
Be Federal Pell Grant eligible;
Be enrolled full-time pursuing a major in physical, life or computer sciences, mathematics, technology, engineering, or a critical foreign language; and
Have at least a cumulative 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
You may contact the financial aid office at your school for assistance regarding the National SMART Grant.

Brian Jordan receives 2008 Trumpet Award

Brian Jordan BJF Founder and Chairman, has been named a 2008 Trumpet Award Honoree. The annual Trumpet Awards acknowledges the accomplishments of men and women who have significantly contributed to enhancing the quality of life for all individuals and/or groups who improve the richness of society by partnering with the cause of justice and equality of all. Halle Berry, Ludacris and Danny Glover are amony the evening's Honorees.

The Criteria is for Men and women who, through consistency and longevity, have achieved success in a chosen profession or career. Potential honorees are those persons who are viewed not only for what they have individually achieved but also for the achievement they inspire in others.

Operation Secret Santa is a Wrap!

The Brian Jordan Foundation surprised a needy family with an unexpected abundance of Children's toy's, CD's and books on Christmas Eve. The single mother, and children were overwhelmed with joy as the large bags came pouring in the families front door.

BJF's Full Pantry Program

The Brian Jordan Foundation assisted the Watkins Family of four with $400 worth of groceries to fill the pantry as well as a Publix Turkey to provide a family Thanksgiving at home for the Holiday. Also provided were gift certificates for the movie theatre for some family fun during the Holiday with the children.

BJF presents grant to Dunbar Elementary

The Brian Jordan Foundation supported Dunbar Elementary School for the third year for a special holiday dinner and program. The event brought students and local Mechanicsville seniors together for a Thanksgiving themed meal, and fall festival hosted in the school gym.

Help from BJ's Kid's at Foundation Event

Our young helpers were on hand to assist Board Members with Silent Auction preparation's for the events later that evening. These siblings were selected for the BJF Adopt a Family holiday program.

Warmth thrives at the Brian Jordan Foundation

Brian Jordan, Board Member Jennifer Berger, and Shah-yee Mojica Executive Director shared a morning breakfast with a local Atlanta Family. The Brian Jordan Foundation provided emergency Assitance for the families shut-off Utilities.

Tamieka (last name withheld for privacy) adopted three children related to her sibling because she wanted to remove them from the Foster Care System. Tameika fell on hard times after a job loss, and a predatory mortgage arrangement.

BJF heard about the hardship and acted swiftly to restore the lights, water and gas for the family before the winter cold snap.

Official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at White Elementary

The Brian Jordan Foundation was on hand to celebrate the official Braves Dugout Library and Loft at White Elementary in Atlanta, located near Turner Field. The Atlanta Journal Constitution sponsored the book donations. Brian Jordan shared his children's book "I Told You I Can Play" with the schools special assembly of student readers.
